Turmeric Latte Recipe

I debated putting this up here on Journey to Shalom… but the more I thought about it, the more I felt that this does indeed belong here, because Shalom means WHOLISTIC peace… nothing broken, nothing missing. If we are neglecting or mistreating our bodies through the food and exercise choices we are making then it results in a brokenness in our whole being-mind, body and spirit.

Since starting FASTer Way to Fat Loss, it has been a joy to journey to Shalom in this area of health and physical healing ALONG other women as we all move towards freedom.

I truly believe that when God first told Adam what to eat, he was giving him a recipe for life and flourishing (shalom) for his physical body.

“And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.” Genesis 1:29

So along those lines, I will post the recipes for a highly medicinal and enjoyable drink, which has truly helped me with hip pain (these childbearing hips of mine are ever faithfully widening to accommodate these (now almost) 8 children that have been brought into the world through them).

Turmeric Chai Latte

(under 50 calories for intermittent fasting)

Steep 1 Chai tea bag in 1 cup of hot water.

Set aside.

Heat on stove top:

3/4 cup Almond milk (30 cal.)

1 1/2 teaspoons organic turmeric

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (or more if you love the stuff like I do)

1 dash of cloves

1 pinch of ground black pepper

(Pepper helps the body absorb the turmeric )

After heated and dissolved pour into Vitamix (or any blender)* with:

1 tsp. Vanilla protein powder (20 cal.)

2-3 drops liquid stevia

Blend for frothy mix.

Remove tea bag from mug. Pour latte over hot tea (you get more “drink” for your calorie intake)

OR enjoy less, but richer latte by pouring into separate mug. Sprinkle with cinnamon.

Yummier, Frothier Turmeric Latte

(100-150 calories)

Heat on stovetop:

1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk

1/2 (or more) cup unsweetened soy milk (makes it frothy)

1 1/2 teaspoons organic turmeric

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (or more)

1 dash of cloves

1 pinch of ground black pepper

Stir until dissolved and warm. Pour into Vitamix with:

1 medjool date (or any type of date that doesn’t have the pit in it)

2 teaspoons vanilla protein powder

1-2 drops of liquid stevia (you can play around with this based on your desired sweetness)

Blend and pour into mug. Top with sprinkled cinnamon. Enjoy!

*turmeric can turn your blender yellow because of its strong color

Note: Nearly every recipe I have ever prepared uses my “guess-timate” measurements. Turmeric is brutal if you OVER guesstimate, so don’t do that (or the pepper) everything else, feel free to play around with… especially delicious things like cinnamon.
