About Kimberly Iverson

I’m Kimberly Iverson. I grew up in Virginia and South Carolina in a loving Christian home.  I lost my mother to brain cancer when I was 15 years old, which proved to be a catalyst for deep spiritual growth as I cried out to God in all my grief and sorrow. As the Lord lifted me out of depression, He filled me with an intense desire to go into the mission field of this world to bear witness to Jesus and the hope and glory found in His love. I attended James Madison University, where I intended to obtain a degree in English and get equipped to teach English in China for the rest of my life as a single missionary.  God had other plans.  I ended up falling in love with my best friend and roommate’s older brother, a stud named Danny Iverson and then getting married at the beginning of my senior year of college. I became pregnant with our first child before I managed to walk the platform with a diploma in my hand…  Shortly after graduating we were called to Newark, NJ, where we helped restart a church (that had previously died due to the hard and dangerous neighborhood) and start a nonprofit organization for the youth of the community.  After five years of laboring there, and 3.5 kids later (we were pregnant with #4), God called us to pack up and study at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, FL, where we could get better equipped for long-term inner-city ministry and raise up a team to go back with us to Newark. See how all this changed here and here. We now reside with our eight kids in Grove Park Atlanta Georgia, a beautiful inner city community, where we are helping birth new expressions of Christ’s Church all around our community. I love kids and have a heart to see them know and love God through His Word. I enjoy teaching my children, Daniel Josiah, Trinity, Katy-Grace,  Benjamin Zion, Malachi, Judah and Gwennalyn about their Maker and Redeemer.  Our kids are my greatest disciples. My passion is to see the Name of Jesus exalted in dark places (including my own heart!), and to see the lost redeemed by the power of the Risen Christ.

I just wrote my first book called Heirloom, and I am super excited about it. I hope you can enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it! You can get it here.

Living in Grove Park and joining Jesus in His restorative work as he births new expressions of His Church in and through us has been quite the adventure. I write most of the blog posts on this site, and love to get real and honest about the struggles of living out the gospel of grace in real time and real spaces. This blog is a place where we process the discovery of our true selves, who we really are in Christ, and who He really is in us. Through the struggle we are learning to grow everything in our lives out of that reality with the hope that we might faithfully display His Kingdom to our desperate world. Come join us on this journey to shalom and may the peace of Christ ever reign in your heart!
