About

What is “Shalom” anyway? And what is this blog about?

Shalom Means Peace … And So Much More. Shalom is the Hebrew word for holistic peace — peace that permeates every aspect of our lives and our being. It is a word used throughout scripture to describe the absolute joy, flourishing, fulfillment, and bliss found in the presence of God. It also conveys the beautiful, interdependent relationships that God’s people eternally share with Him, each other, and all of creation.

Nothing Broken… Nothing Missing… The way things are supposed to be. Shalom is what has come into the world through Christ, and is made complete when Christ returns and fully eradicates sin and death forever. God is glorified as Shalom happens. We have a mission as God’s people to discover and display the Shalom of God’s Kingdom to this hurting world by faithfully proclaiming the Gospel in WORD and DEED as we share life with our neighbors. This blog documents one Kingdom Family’s journey to Shalom…

God Hears, God speaks

God’s been hearing the cries for help from a desperately exhausted 8-month-pregnant mamma of four little ones.  Last week, too tired to move by the time dinner hour came along, my family’s nutritional intake was painfully lacking. Dinner Menu: Monday:free kids meals from Chic-fil-a (boy, did they lose money on THAT family night) Tuesday: bowls […]

From the mouths of babes…momentous day

Today was a momentous day. Daniel Josiah read all of Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham by himself. (Granted, it took nearly 45 minutes between frequent breaks, back scratches to keep him going, some reminding of phonics rules by his mother, and some frustration towards Trinity who would mindlessly blurt out the next word because […]

Fourteen years ago, today…

Fourteen years ago, today, when I was struggling to figure out who on earth I was, I lost from earth the woman who was helping make me who I am. And since I’m so busy raising (and growing within me) her grandchildren, I haven’t had time to really write anything to or about her, so […]

Learning to Praise Again

I learned it while watching my mother’s personality, mental stability, and  physical body be eaten by cancer. I learned it in the grief and disappointment of my prayers for her healing not having been answered. I learned it while struggling with an eating disorder, with no sign of “recovery”. I learned it in Newark while […]

Outward bound…His glories being known…

Balancing the Bible in hand, catching its words by the single glow from the closet light before a soul was awake Wednesday morning, my heart began to soar with these words. “Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done, and proclaim that his name is […]

Before they call, I will answer…

“Before they call, I will answer, while they are still speaking I will hear.” Isaiah 65:24 He’s done it again, and proved Himself so faithful and true to His Word. While there is still much to wait in expectation for the Lord to do, we have already seen some exciting glimmers of hope in Newark. […]

As we fast….

As we go into our weekend of fasting for Newark, NJ and the ministry of Safe Haven there, I wanted to include some practical helps and ways we can be approaching the Lord on behalf of this city. First of all, the fast will be lasting for 48 hours (Friday 7pm-Sunday 7pm)  and we are […]

“But seek the Shalom of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its Shalom you will find your Shalom.”

Meet the Authors

Danny and Kimberly Iverson

Danny and Kimberly Iverson met while in college and fell in love 3 years later while Danny was leading an inner-city ministry in Newark, NJ. Their hearts for the disinvested spaces of society, and the conviction of God’s love and redemptive purposes for such places, drew them together on mission and continues to be a driving force as they follow God’s calling to discover and display an expression of the body of Christ that is focused on reconciliation and renewal. They love being on mission with their family of eight children – Daniel Josiah, Trinity, Katy-Grace, Benjamin Zion, Malachi, Judah, Gwennalyn and Joel. They currently live in Atlanta, GA and are sharing life with their neighbors and leading a house church and community development organization called Restore Life.  Sign up to receive their newsletter.
