About

What is “Shalom” anyway? And what is this blog about?

Shalom Means Peace … And So Much More. Shalom is the Hebrew word for holistic peace — peace that permeates every aspect of our lives and our being. It is a word used throughout scripture to describe the absolute joy, flourishing, fulfillment, and bliss found in the presence of God. It also conveys the beautiful, interdependent relationships that God’s people eternally share with Him, each other, and all of creation.

Nothing Broken… Nothing Missing… The way things are supposed to be. Shalom is what has come into the world through Christ, and is made complete when Christ returns and fully eradicates sin and death forever. God is glorified as Shalom happens. We have a mission as God’s people to discover and display the Shalom of God’s Kingdom to this hurting world by faithfully proclaiming the Gospel in WORD and DEED as we share life with our neighbors. This blog documents one Kingdom Family’s journey to Shalom…

Thoughts on our Japan Trip

As I watched the Church in Japan come together to serve the needs of their neighbors after the earthquake and tsunami I was amazed at the power of Jesus’ love and grace in the midst of such a tragedy.  The sacrifice and availability of God’s people was so encouraging. Denominations uniting, neighbors sharing, praying and […]

Swords and Secrets of the Kingdom

Last week Daniel Josiah’s preschool was doing a “Bible Character Parade” in which the kids were suppose to dress up as their favorite Bible character.  When I asked Daniel Josiah what he wanted to dress up as, the conversation went like this: Me: So, Daniel Josiah, who do you want to be for the parade? […]

Yard Sale Mania

The reason it has taken me over two weeks to write this update post on our yard sale-ing endeavors is because of the toll it took on my sleep, my parenting, my housework, etc. (that is a whole other post, which I will hopefully get to soon). BUT, I must say, the yard sale went […]

Meet a Modern Day Hero

He may not fly. He may not shoot webs out his hands. He may not fight crime by beating up the bad guys and getting them shipped off to prison. But he is a hero. In fact, this hero fights crime by LOVING the gangster.  By being the bad guy’s friend.  By giving the teen […]

From the Mouthes of Babes…#2

If we were doing superlatives in this Iverson family, Trinity would surely win one for saying the most amusing and convicting things… Today while Trinity was wiping down the table she was singing while she worked… OH! how I love  Jesus!! oh, HOW I love Jesus!! oh, how I love Jesus!! oh, how I LOVE […]

Thoughts from Makoto Fujimura

I read this article on By Faith Magazine…  This is just part of the article… Good perspective from an artist… ————————————————— In his book Refractions: A Journey of Faith, Art and Culture, renowned artist and PCA elder Makoto Fujimura writes that God has taught him as an artist and a follower of Christ to live […]

“But seek the Shalom of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its Shalom you will find your Shalom.”

Meet the Authors

Danny and Kimberly Iverson

Danny and Kimberly Iverson met while in college and fell in love 3 years later while Danny was leading an inner-city ministry in Newark, NJ. Their hearts for the disinvested spaces of society, and the conviction of God’s love and redemptive purposes for such places, drew them together on mission and continues to be a driving force as they follow God’s calling to discover and display an expression of the body of Christ that is focused on reconciliation and renewal. They love being on mission with their family of eight children – Daniel Josiah, Trinity, Katy-Grace, Benjamin Zion, Malachi, Judah, Gwennalyn and Joel. They currently live in Atlanta, GA and are sharing life with their neighbors and leading a house church and community development organization called Restore Life.  Sign up to receive their newsletter.
